Presented by Senator (Dr.) Joseph Wayas, former Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria on the Occasion of the Inauguration and Award of VOAN 17/12/2015
Your Excellency, the Executive Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Your Excellencies, the Executive Governors here present, your Excellency Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the First Lady of Nigeria, your Royal Highness, Alhaji Musa Idris, the Emir of Jiwa, the Hon. Ministers here present; distinguished journalists and ladies & Gentlemen. I salute you all for making out time to grace this inauguration and to witness this Award Presentation Ceremony.
I am highly elated today because Vehicle Owners Association of Nigeria is out to boost the Transport and Automobile Sector of the country especially coming at a time when our dear country is facing security challenges that need people to come together in association to form a formidable force and voice against such evil vis-à-vis other needs in the Transport and Automobile Sector.
Today, I look back with nostalgia when we muted the idea and formed the Directorate of Road Traffic Services or what we called the VIO back then during the Second Republic. Considering the achievements recorded so far by the service, I feel vindicated and fulfilled been the key person that insisted on the formation of the VIO and also had the privilege of recruiting the first set of staff members, as the then Senate President of our dear country.
For this reason, I have no doubt that Vehicle Owners Association of Nigeria as a social welfare group would succeed in its Vision and objectives as listed by the National President and appeal to the Government of the day to work with and support the Association for our National growth and development.
In this regard, permit me to commend the Board of Trustees and the National Executive Council of the Association for coming together as patriotic Nigerians to form this Association with its great vision and objectives which I believe in the long run shall also lead to the creation of employments for young Nigerians and add value to our social-economic well-being.
Finally, based on the power vested in me as the distinguished Chairman of this occasion, I hereby declare the Association inaugurated in the name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen!
I wish you all a happy deliberation and a rewarding interaction as we continue in the ceremony,
